Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between engineered floors and hardwood floors?
Solid hardwood floors are made from solid wood and are site-finished. Engineered flooring is made from a single piece of hardwood or plywood with a layer of hardwood veneer affixed to the top surface and is usually pre-finished.
How often should I clean my floors?
This depends on the foot traffic within your home, but you should sweep and vacuum regularly to remove grit. Mopping should be done no more than twice per week. You must use the recommended cleaning instructions advised by your contractor.
What kind of maintenance should I be undertaking?
Heavy furniture can leave marks on solid wood floors or engineered flooring. We advise using protective pads on the bottom of all furniture to avoid any marks. Please note – plastic casters may also leave marks. Avoid these to reduce scratching and scuffing.
No wooden floors are immune to scratches and dents, but there are a few extra things you can do to maintain your floor:
- Wipe up any spills immediately – these can potentially stain the floor and/or impact the finish if left unchecked.
- Place doormats and rugs at entrances and exits.
- Make sure your furniture pads are properly maintained, these will need to be replaced from time to time.
- Keep in mind that high-heeled shoes can cause dents.
- Rearrange furniture and rugs regularly – particularly those that are exposed to a lot of sunlight to ensure the floor is exposed evenly.

Right from the start Daniel and Natural Wood Floors have been professional, clear and easy to deal with (not to mention the very reasonable cost involved). Daniel and the team did an amazing job of renovating our American Oak floor. As soon as I met Daniel I knew I was in safe hands. He explained the process and understood immediately the result I was looking for. The existing floor surface finish had yellowed over the years. Daniel reassured me that the grain of the timber would be enhanced by the sanding process and the application of a matte finish. The results were outstanding and our floors look modern and brand new. My floor was in a really bad state (to the point I was considering putting floating floor on top of the hard wood), and it was really dark (as per the 2 photos). They brightened it up, and smoothed it out
Would 100% recommend these guys, and will 100% use them again. The entire house feels more modern now, and is substantially brighter inside. In fact, the hardwood flooring looks 100% better than the floating floors I installed (and I am so happy I went this approach).
